Visceral Manipulation
Visceral Manipulation is a form of gentle body work that releases tissue surrounding the internal organs. At optimal health, the relationship between the organs, the muscles, the bones and the fascia remains stable. When one organ cannot move in sync with its surrounding tissue, it causes disharmony. When there are abnormal points of tension the body is forced to move around them. Chronic tension can lead to disease and dysfunction.
Visceral Manipulation employs specifically placed manual forces to encourage normal mobility, tone and motion of the viscera and their connective tissue. Structural integration of the entire body is essential for health and balance.
Visceral Manipulation can be effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including:
Angina
Constipation
Headaches
Torticollis
Incontinence
Joint Aches and Pains
What can I expect from a session?
Upon arrival, you will fill out a health history form. Your therapist will review your past and present medical history with you, with your specific needs noted. During the session, you will remain fully clothed. The therapist will apply gentle pressure to your abdomen and thorax to encourage normal mobility of the viscera and their connective tissues. A session will last 45 minutes. Comfortable loose fitting clothes should be worn.
There are no side effects of visceral manipulation. On a rare occasion you may feel some soreness. Your body may take 48 hours to adjust to the changes. It is wise to be nice to yourself, eat light, omit heavy exercise, and drink plenty of water for 48 hours after a session.
